23 Dec Santa Soap Says, “I Love You!”
Sometimes it’s the little things…
About a year ago I set out on a journey to discover ways I could express my love and nurture myself that were not food related. In exploring my relationship with food I discovered that the expression “Food is Love” was true for me. Growing up the most tangible expressions of love in my family were food related and in good times or bad I turned to food to celebrate, to comfort, to numb.
One of the things I added to my list of “I Love Me’s” is nice hand soap at the sinks. As a mom and a cook I wash my hands a lot and though it may seem a small thing to have nice soap available, in the beginning it was challenging for me to believe I was worth more than the standard bar of soap in the bathroom and a dollop of dish soap in the kitchen – worthiness and being important enough are some of my core issues.
A few weeks back I bought this cute little guy for the Kitchen. At a buck-50 he wasn’t a huge financial investment… but I will admit to a long internal discussion in the aisle at the grocery store about the frivolousness of the purchase. Didn’t I already have a very nice glass container in the kitchen with soap in it already? Was the $1.50 something I could spend more practically… these are the things I think about when making even a small purchase in my honor.
Here’s the thing – I LOVE Christmas. Love it! And this little guy can bring me a small moment of joy each time I was my hands… celebrating the tiny little joys can add up to greatness.
Update: A surprising bonus has appeared… my youngest son thanks me almost daily when he uses the Santa Soap. I realize I have shifted the pattern ever so slightly for the next generation. Here is a kid who sees that a tangible expression of love for me and for the family is fun soap at the sink… no food involved.
