22 Nov Thanksgiving – Thanks Givings
If you know me, you know I love food. LOVE IT! Bigger than that – I love to make it, prepare it, bake it… you name it. So, you can imagine the holiday season ROX for me.
Anyway, you may have noticed I have a feed from the Simply Recipes Blog on my side bar – I like the site that much… check it almost daily. Today she has an amazing post about saying grace. People from all cultures are writing in the Blessings that they say before meals… and I moved, almost to tears, that this simple thing we do, this thing that almost doesn’t apply to most Americans – to say thank you to God for the food we recieve – like it was a possibility we wouldn’t have it – and God in the end, came through for us… this simple act of saying Thank You – unites us, across religions, cultures, countries…
We here usually let the boys take turns saying Grace… and it is usually the “God is Good, etc…” category. Sometime we get to sing the “Jonny Appleseed” song and if we are REALLY lucky… we get to sing the “Super-Man” prayer.
When the boys let me jump in my prayer is the following,
Mother Spirit, Father God,
Thank you for this food we are about to recieve.
Thank you to Mother Earth that grew it,
Thank you to all those along the way who helped to get it to this table.
As it nourishes our bodies,
Let it nourish the world.
Amen.
A Most Blessed Thanksgiving to You All.
